There are some points that an auto transport company would require you to do before your car could be transported. Following are some guidelines that will help you in order to prepare your vehicle for transport.

You need to be presented when someone auto transport company inspects your vehicle before shipping. You further need to sign a bill of lading as well as report on the vehicles condition. This would be done both before car shipping of the vehicle and before your vehicle reaches its destination. Of course, it is only your benefit to be at the inspection place, but in case it is possible do have a competent relative or any of your friends to be present on your behalf.

The vehicle needs to be in operable condition. There are some companies, which would move a vehicle that is inoperable, but there would probably be an extra charge for this service. Do follow the following procedures before shipping.

• Have your vehicle serviced before shipping process, as it should not have any leaks from which fluid could spill out.

• You need to have a full set of extra keys to give it to auto transport company representative on the day of shipping.

• You need to make sure that your vehicle is cleaned properly as it would be easier to conduct the physical inspection of the vehicle on the particular day of shipping.

• Take out the cover or spare tire covers in your vehicle; even though the spare tire and jack might be kept in the vehicle.

You need to remove any personal items from the vehicle if any before shipping. It is against the law of transportation to ship the vehicle with personal items. Any transport company could decline to accept your vehicle in case you have personal belongings in it. Anyhow personal if in case personal items are left unknowingly in the vehicle, it would not be the responsibility of the transport company if this stuffs is lost or stolen in transit. Even other non-permanent items, such as roof racks, need to be taken off. The antennas need to either be taken off or fully retracted. It is again against the law of transportation.

Do not have any alarm system in your vehicle. Years ago when car shipping used to take place in agreement with active alarm system, they often reached at the destination with dead batteries.

Prepare your vehicle effectively earlier if you are moving to a location with a different climate. You might need to have your air conditioning and heating systems serviced; or you might even need to add coolant or any other fluids, depending on where you are relocating. On the day of shipping, it is good to have less than a half tank of gas in your vehicle.
