Features of Duracell AA
Duracell AA battery is a dry cell battery which is commonly used in portable electronic devices. This battery type was standardized by ANSI in 1947 and was designated E91 by DIN and AM3 by JIS. In the international market, the IEC designated it as LR6 (alkaline), R6 (carbon-zinc), KR157/51 (nickel-cadmium), HR6 (nickel-metal-hydride) and FR6 (lithium-iron-disulfide). The other names for this battery include MN1500 and HP7.
The composition of Duracell AA battery consists of a single electrochemical cell. Its dimension includes 51 mm in length and 13.5 to 14.5 mm in diameter. The traditional alkaline AA battery weighs about 23 grams, Lithium AA battery weighs around 15 grams and the rechargeable NiMH battery has the mass of 31 grams.
The specifications of Duracell AA battery include the nominal voltage of 1.5 volts while that of NiCd and NiMH rechargeable batteries is 1.2 Volts. The special batteries of this type can run at a voltage of 1.6 Volts under the load. The voltage of Duracell AA battery is same as that of AAA battery, C and D cell. The life of Duracell AA batteries is very long because of their large size. This allows them to store a large mass of anode material which is consumed while doing electrical work. The primary zinc-carbon AA batteries having the capacity of 400-900 milliamp-hours are commonly used using the Leclanche’s cell technology.
The lithium AA batteries have the nominal voltage of 1.5 Volts. Although Duracell AA batteries are available with different nominal voltages, they should be used only in the devices that rate for higher voltage.
